Puente Project - a presentation
The Puente Project is an academic preparation program that for more than 25 years has improved the college-going rate of tens of thousands of California’s educationally disadvantaged students. Its mission is to increase the number of educationally disadvantaged students who:
- Enroll in four-year colleges and universities
- Earn college degrees
- Return to the community as mentors and leaders of future generations
About Puente:
The Puente Project is a national award-winning program that for more than 25 years has improved the college-going rate of tens of thousands of California’s educationally underrepresented students. Its mission is to increase the number of educationally disadvantaged students who enroll in four-year colleges and universities, earn college degrees and return to the community as mentors and leaders to future generations. The program is interdisciplinary in approach, with writing, counseling and mentoring components.
Started in 1981 at Chabot Community College in Hayward, California, the program has since expanded to 33 high school sites and 59 community college sites throughout the state. Puente staff train high school and community college instructors and counselors to implement a program of rigorous instruction, focused academic counseling, and mentoring by members of the community. Puente’s staff training programs currently benefit approximately 14,000 students across the state. Puente is open to all students.

Wow I had never heard about the Puente Project before. It sounds great!
Im in the programn and in the video it’s really a great Program every high school should have it .
I am also in the Puente Program at Centennial High and this video turned out great. The Puente Program indeed is a great program, and has definitely helped me so far.
This video came out Greatt!! I’m in the video and a city at Centennial and have been in the program for 3 years now, and it has been such an amazing experience. There really is a sense of family in the classroom and I love it!<3 I will carry this for the rest of my school life through college!

This video demonstrates how Puente has impacted high schools and the students in them. It helps alot. I suree think that all high schools should have Puente in there High schools because it is a great oppurtunity to get prepared for colleges. i’m in this pogram and i can tell you that Puente is a Fantastic program.We are a familia.

This video gives me a much better presentation of what Puente is about. You inspired me to further give to our community and really want to learn more about the program and to further my skills as a videographer. it was a pleasure to work with the Puentistas last year when I filmed their perspectives and laughter.
I am very impressed by the program, this video in particular really highlights what is important for kids in need and the wonderful people (especially the teacher) who make the program work! I am going to be looking into this program for my grandkids up here in Northern California.
I am a puentista at Centennial high school. The program here is amazing and it helps you out alot and gives you a better perspective on college. I think the puente program should be in every high school!

I’m a puentista at Centennial High and I truly enjoyed watching this video because it explain what the Puente program is and how it functions. This progam really helped impacted my life, I now understand that no matter what SI SE PUEDE! I highly suggest that all high schools should have this program because it may change many students’ perspective towards their education and future. I believe that if more students were involved with the Puente program, it would inspire them to become a better person in life and encourage them to accomplish their goals that may benefit their future.
